URGENT: Does anyone have time to offer advice. .? (done with life...)
I start nursing school in one month. I just turned 20.
I have been working as a CNA for 2 years.
I have worked at an assisted living before this job. I currently work at a nursing home
We are extremely understaffed with CNAs. They keep accepting new patients and yet they are not hiring new employees.
They also treat us (employees) like complete garbage.
Anyways, I am so lost right now.
Nursing is my passion, it was since I was 9.
This job as a CNA though is living hell for me.
We are kicked, pinched, spit at, hit, verbally and physically abused, and mangement does 0 action for it. I know they are old, but some are not.
Anyways, I am finally putting my happiness infront of the $11 per hour I make currently. There are 33 patients and at least 5 of them, if not more, are ALWAYS on the light. We can never catch up and can never give them the proper care.
I worked 15.5 hours today, had my coffee, and I was all set. Being at work wasn't the bad part, it was the lack of help and overwork. I come in again at 7am to 6pm tomorrow.
The nurse does not help at all. I asked her to help and she got out of breathe from putting a shirt on a patient and had to sit on the bed to rest. She does not help at all and yells at us.
I am student status right now, which means that I can work a minimum of 8 hours every 2 months, which is not bad.
I no longer have to be a CNA for nursing school and I am so lost.
I did get on Nexplanon from the pill in May, but I did lose 10 pounds since then, and since I started this new job. I went from 111 to 101. I am 5ft.
Is being mistreated, abused, and on your feet for the full 8 hours with hardly any rest worth $11 an hour? HELL NO.
I have $22k saved up for nursing school, which means I have all of college saved up for and rent saved up for my new apartment.
UPDATE:
I told the scheduling lady what days I might be able to work. Work put me on for those days the full pm shift, 2pm to 10pm. Aug 7 through Aug 16 I was scheduled for dietary. I talk to the manager today and they said that the dietary manager shouldn't have put me on there as I was hired as a CNA and they need me as a CNA more. The manager also said that I could be lowered from $11 to $8 per hour for dietary (I was not told this before I picked up 9 days in dietary). Now I have to work 7am to 2pm dietary and 2pm until 7pm as a CNA. The scheduler also said that because I "picked up" (which I never confirmed that I could work those days) that if I don't work the full 2pm to 10pm after 7 hours in diety, that I will get written up and in trouble for each day, all 7 of them.
I have worked here for 5 months and have ALWAYS picked up shifts, worked for others, and came in when there was NO ONE else to work. And now they pull this on me?
I picked up in dietary and said some days where I could MAYBE work. Now it is my fault for working in dietary because the dietary manager shouldn't let CNAs work there since we need more CNAs instead. And it is also my fault because the scheduler put me on the permanent schedule for days I said I might be able to work.
I am now going to work the 7am to 2pm dietary and 2pm to 7pm CNA each of these days they put me on.
When I picked up dietary they said NOTHING about lowering my $11 to $8 per hour. Can the just change that after I'm scheduled for the $11?
I put my 2 weeks in to quit. I was a waitress before this and made more money and I no longer need to be a CNA to be in nursing school.
