What should I look for in a dog trainer and how much would you pay one? I had a woman say she is a trainer and will charge me $20 a session. Is this a good deal and what else should I ask her for?

It really depends on what you're trying to train.... is it basic training? or dog show type training

If she is only charging $20 a session I doubt that she is every experienced. I would be a little hesitant. I apprentice under a dog trainer and she has years of experience, trained dogs over in Ireland and now here in the US. She charges $300 for a 6 week course and thats with 1 lesson a week. Ask for references, a resume, how many years of experience she did. How did she learn how to train dogs, was it through an online college or classes like Pet smart pays for you to go to if you become a trainer for them or did she apprentice under multiple dog trainers?

Get references. Make sure the trainer is knowledgable in what specific area you are needing. $20 a session is not bad at all.
