We're out there
I am a white female married to a white male. We are both born and raised in the south, and our family's roots are deeply embedded here. Each of us know (even related to) some people who fly the confederate flag and say things like "the south will rise again."
We hear the racial slurs, not just toward African Americans, but to Middle Eastern people as well. We both see the sideways glances, see the ways your children are not included.
Our hearts break for you, even more so as parents, that you're still forced to undergo things that shouldn't even happen -especially in 2017.
We see you, we're here. Even though we don't have the resources, we will continue to do our best supporting and furthering the campaign for equality. Even though our actions, our fight for you and your children isn't publicized - I assure you it's taking place. Little, young families like ours, scattered throughout the land that used to call itself the Confederate States of America, stand with you in every way that we can. Our sons, snow white as their little baby behinds can be, will be men who see men - not color. They are growing up watching their Momma stand by the mother who's children are bullied and left out because of their skin color or religion. They see their father, the man who was born into a racist family, abandon his family's beliefs and defend men who his family once fought to keep as slaves.
The media will not tell you about us, because (I'm convinced) know that division sells, but we're here. We see you. We are here for you. And we love you. There is hope.
