the theory of multiple intelligence? by howard gardner. professor of education at harvard university. It goes against to a degree the accepted idea of intelligence being about book smart and iq tests focus to a large degree on maths and comprehesion of reading materials.

Yes, of course. I don't know how anyone could NOT believe in in, the idea that intelligence isn't a multifaceted trait is silly.

My husband can't spell or do math to save his life but can take apart and put back together anything mechanical.

Yes. Book are not for everyone. My husband an fix anything and learn anything he wants to. He never wants to go to college.  I going to college hopping to finish a masters in art therapy.

Of course, I'm a teacher and it makes sense that just because you aren't getting 100% on a test doesn't mean you aren't smart. I have students who can take a test like nobody's business but if I told them to write a song or build something they couldn't. This also recognizes that in the real world there's not one specific "smart" as in if I'm a musician then I can be incredible intelligent in music but not necessarily math which is ok! If I'm really good at building things maybe I'll be an architect, engineer or construction worker. I think it helps kids realize that just because they don't understand geometry or love reading doesn't mean they're doomed in life... it tells our children to find their talent and passion and pursue it.

Yes. I'm not good at math or fixing a car, but I'm amazing in the medical field (I've diagnosed myself, my children, and many others before their doctor did), I'm decent with people skills. I'm great at spelling/grammar. 
There's so many different things you can be educated in!

I am the worst at math. I still pause to do mathematical problems in my head and then double check them five times over before using my phone. 
But I'm really good at playing the piano, I'm good with words, spelling, typing, and I'm artistic. 
I can't wrap my head around science, math, or most any combo of the two😰

To actually answer this, whilst it might seem like the logical answer is yes multiple intelligence exists, that’s not the only theory of intelligence. The others also hold some weight to them too. Coming from a psychological standpoint there isn’t an agreed belief on intelligence and that’s actually why there isn’t a proper intelligence test. IQ tests aren’t an accurate way of measuring intelligence, they only really give a base line of a persons intelligence. Triarchic Theory of Intelligence is actually a build onto multiple intelligence.
