what am I doing wrong.

so my son Marley.  is 4 will be 5 in September.  but he won't listen to anything I say.  actually no one.  Im  so frustrated.  for example Marley please hold my hand while we cross the road.  he stops right in the middle of the road and starts throwing a fit.  or I ask him to help me clean up the game we were play. he says no and spits and hits me. IDK what I'm doing wrong. I'm trying to work with him on please and thank you.  we have a daily routine.  :(

I agree with the other poster, take away toys or time out and ALWAYS follow thru. "We will leave the store if" and actually leave. "If you don't stop I will put you in time out" and put him in time out. If you're a counter "5, 4, 3..." get to 1 and actually time out. Always follow through. If it doesn't seem to be a problem, set the stakes higher. Early bedtime, favorite toys, sitting in a corner, taking all toys out of his room etc.

Unpopular opinion: spank him. If i did stuff like that i got a butt whoopin and I stopped.          OR if thats not your style, time out and punishment. take his toys or whatever he likes. But make sure to follow through! "Clean up or you lose your ninja turtle" he doesnt clean up? Take the turtle. he throws a fit over it? Tell him big boys dont act that way and put him in his room to throw a fit. then go in once he is done with water and a tissue. Let him have the water, ait him down and tell him why he lost his toy and why he got put in his room. he is a big boy and he can understand all this.

show him that you are the parent and what you say goes. either start enforcing time out or start spanking him. I usually just swat my child's bottom and if he does it again he does a few minutes in the corner. he will cry for a few minutes but you just need to ignore it and not give in.

thanks ladies.  but that's the thing I do that.  I give him warning.  he says. well do it than.  I do and he don't care.
