Potty training, an I doing it right??

My little girl is 20 months old and I am starting potty training. A couple of times a day I let her sit on the potty and wait for her to do a pee, then when she does I give lots of praise and then put her nappy back on and do a few more attempts through the day. Today is the first day she has peed in it! Hooray! I feel like if I was to let her run around with no nappy on atm she will just pee everywhere so that's why I am starting with just a few times a day so starts to understand what the potty is for. Then I will eventually let her run around with no nappy. Am I doing it right??
