mucus plug?? *no picture*

So last week I went to the bathroom and had a glob of brownish snot on the toilet paper. Told my doctor, they checked, I was 1/2 cm dilated 25% effaced. So I figured that was my plug. This week I've been having contractions that get stronger and closer together then they just stop. I was just rechecked and had my membrane sweep, I'm now 2 cm and 50% effaced. Last two mornings when I go to the bathroom there is clear snotty stuff on the toilet paper. There was more today than yesterday. I've had really sharp pain in my vagina all night, last check doctor said he was touching baby's head. Could labor me near?? My birthday is tomorrow and my whole family is really hoping we end up being twins lol
