Help me

Okay so I need ways to discipline my two year old. He hits, throws things, gets attitude, and just flat out will not listen. I'm a single mother so I have no help. I'm not sure what to do, I have been spanking him but I don't want to do that, I just feel like that's not for me as a parent. But this child is completely out of control. I've tried time outs, I've also tried just sitting and talking with him about what he's done. Every time I get on to him I make it a point to explain to him why he's in trouble, what he did, and why he shouldn't do it. I just have no clue what to do. His main problem isn't listening, he won't listen to me at all.🤦🏻‍♀️
