5 month still fits into a newborn/ 0-3 months?

I babysit a little boy he was 1 week early. He only wears a size one diaper and in a newborn size clothes still or 0-3 months. I'm pregnant and a first time mom, I'm not shaming his mom just curious if this is normal. I would ask her but I feel like she would think I'm being rude.

I wouldn't mention his size only his health. As a new mom I've had many people be concerned for my daughter's size and comment how, "small," she was, however she is healthy. I found that very discouraging and it fed my motherly anxieties even more. If he is eating, sleeping, growing, progressing then he's healthy. Not every baby is the same size.

my daughter was still in nb at 3/4 months. they still fit her when I put them away, I was just sick of looking at them and constantly being reminded how petite my daughter is. she was 3 weeks early and struggled wth jaundice for 3 months and weight gain for 5 months. she's 7 months now and finally catching up.   you could try asking her less directly, like how were the first few weeks/months with a new baby. but you're right, she would probably feel judged (even if you weren't judging) I know I felt insecure about my daughter's weight and still do sometimes. my guess is that he'll start packing on the pounds once solids are a regular part of his diet.

My friend's little girl was wearing 6 mo clothing at a year. She was a good eater and hit all of the milestones and more, just was tinier. My friend's second little girl can't go through sizes fast enough and it's clear she has a bigger build. Babies come in all shapes and sizes :).

Every baby is different. My daughter was 2 weeks early and at 5 months she was in 9 m and 12 m clothing 🤷🏻‍♀️

My son is 3 months and is only in 3-6 month clothes bc he is long. His nb clothes are still big on his waist. Still in size ones. He is happy and healthy, eats 30oz a day. Everyone keeps telling me he's too skinny, but high metabolisms run on both sides and he's really active (already rolling over before 3 months).

My older son it's 21 months old and he his 9-12 months old shirts still fit, he was wearing 6-9 months shirt when he was 18 months. He also has some 12-18 month jeans that still fit.

Each baby is different especially at that age they grow at different rates there's no "normal." My son fit into 0-3 for a long time because he was long & skinny. And it can be hurtful to say something sometimes my sister would joke "do you feed him" & it would get annoying.
