Silhouette Cameo 3 experts?

Just got my first Silhouette Cameo 3 and I watched so many videos on it before purchasing so I would have an idea of how to use when I got it well I got a question as to what I'm doing wrong. I loaded my vinyl correctly and adjusted my blade pressure and speed to the aoftwares preference (pressure:5 speed:5) and began cutting. IMMEDIATELY cut indentions into my mat. So I restarted and used a pressure: 1 and speed: 3 and it's STILL cutting into the back of the vinyl and into the mat. SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT IM DOING WRONG. There's nothing on google and I'm at a loss. Is it already broken or?
