Spotting then my period whats happening?? help please

Ok ladies i need some answers.....just a lil back ground...my name is Brianna. Me and my fiance have been ttc for abt 7 mnths now. no luck. but anyways.... last weekend i was on my "period". it was only 2 1/2 days and was very very light and was off and on. i was spotting basically.....i kinda ignored it and thought mayne it was just a light period. well i went to the bathroom today and im bleeding lightly. not sure..i looked it up and did reasearch the only thing i found was pregnant related. just wandering if any of you ladies has any explenations. dont want to get my hopes up for somthin. i took a pregnancy test a couple weeks ago(thr cheap one) and it was negative...so idk any advise please.
