Not pregnancy related

Not pregnancy related but I have questions me and my SO still live with ours parents but we are looking to move sometime next year we're just wondering would it best for us to go through the process of renting to own home or getting an apartment?? I honestly think getting a apartment is a waste because now a days they're so expensive I feel like it'll be best to try to get a home that we can call our own . Any suggestions I need help honestly my MIL thinks we just get a apartment first
