Where do you live?  Lsu and Auburn have amazing programs that can incorporate your passion into a career. ...if you are science minded.

Best thing to do is research jobs you can do with the degree and how much they pay. Your making a huge investment of time and money you want to make sure you'll be getting a good return on that investment.

I started with this as my major but then realized I liked it better as a hobby. I wish I had taken just a few more classes before switching though. Definitely a fun field to go into! As far as job outlook, hort jobs in my area were city parks and rec (where I worked, paid well with good benefits), private landscaping, research on plant disease/cultivation (a friend travels the world researching blackberry varieties!) etcetc. Go for it!
