Can you be fwb with an ex , let alone be friends ?

Please comment your stories / opinions. I've only been out of the relationship for a month and a half, he moved away. He called me when he came back to town for a weekend , we met up. Initially I didn't feel any emotional attachment during our session , but afterwards I questioned if I could really move on. I want to keep doing it since it's not a weekly thing, just whenever we're both in town for the weekend which is maybe every few weeks. Is it possible to still move on and lose the romantic side ?
