Wig or?

So, I'm a Caucasian woman, really have been struggling with my hair growth.. my entire life I had extremely long hair until last year because my hair got damaged by highlights so I got it cut into a short bob.. I'm finally to the state where my hair is about at the top of my shoulders.. but I really miss my long hair. I tried extensions and it just doesn't pull off the look I want.. so I was thinking about a front lace wig. Are there any ladies who do this? If so, what do you look for? Where do you get yours? & do you do it yourself or have someone do it for you?
