If yes, what was it like? I'm 20 years old and have wanted a nose job since sixth grade. I'm hoping it can be my graduation gift to myself after I graduate grad school and pay off my loans.

When I was 23 I had a septoplasty and rhinoplasty. I had my deviated septum fixed and the bump on the bridge of my nose taken down. Maybe the best decision I ever made!

I was like you, I hated my nose my entire life and saved up the money planning this since I was young.  I didn't even know my septum was deviated until my pre-op appointment, so it turned out to be medically necessary, not just for vanity (although I would've done it anyway!). Since I had a deviated septum, insurance covered it all. Maybe that will be the case for you!

I know that people say getting plastic surgery done will not fix the problems inside... But, for me it really changed a lot. I used to avoid photos and I was very self conscious. I'm much happier and most people have no idea that it even happened and my overall appearance changed very little, but I could tell! And I haven't had anything else "done" or fixed.

I work for a plastic surgeon and can answer any questions. 
It takes a 3-4 daysto recover and usually a full 2 weeks before you feel normal. It can take several months to a year for the swelling to go down completely.  Make sure you find A BOARD CERTIFIED PLASTIC SURGEON - nothing other than that.

I've had septoplasty in the past along with a partial uvelectomy(sp?) for chronic snoring. Just make sure it's something you really really want if it's not for medical reasons. That is not a fun surgery to recover from.
