Potty training

My son just turned 2 at the end of August. Yesterday, I started putting him on the potty every half hour to one hour. He went every time. I'm going to stay in this routine, but my only concern is him being mentally prepared for it. I have to ask him every 30-hour if he has to go. He doesn't tell me. He enjoys going.. he just won't say peepee or make any effort to get up & go himself. We have been very encouraging & giving high 5's. Any tips? I'm hoping by staying in routine, he'll pick it up.
