Where to have baby

Question

Hi all. I'm 34+3 today and have no idea where to have baby. Time is running out!

We are Hypnobirthing (basically, no/low intervention & pain relief) so were looking at the midwife led unit at our nearest hospital. We visited on Sunday but really didn't like it.

So we have booked to visit another hospital-based midwife led unit, & also having my 36 week appointment at a stand alone midwife led birthing centre.

I spoke to my midwife today about this at my 34 week appointment & she said there's no reason I can't go for the stand alone birthing centre, as I am low risk. The only reason we were unsure of this is that the transfer time to hospital, should we need it, can be up to 45 mins (not blue-lighting us).

She then suggested that I should consider a home birth, since transfer time from our home to hospital is around 30 mins (again, without being blue-lighted).

Now I am just totally confused! I hadn't even thought home birth a possibility since this is baby number one but I haven't had any complications or even swelling or any 'bad' side effects of pregnancy (yet...)

I'm worried that I'll give birth before I decide!

Home births and hypnobirthing sounds like a good combination and midwife seems to think this would be fine for you. I've heard great things about homebirths and an ambulance on standby if there's signs of problems. I'm not visiting my midwife led unit before I go so guess that makes my choice easier : / I'm hypnobirthing too-hope we both have a great experience xx

It's made me so excited for the birth. This is the only thing I'm really worried about now. My sister had a baby last year and the more I tell her about Hypnobirthing, the more annoyed she gets that she didn't know anything about it! Ultimately, wherever and whenever baby comes out, hopefully it'll be as calm an experience as we plan. Good luck :)

I really want a home birth if possible. It's my first and I'm only 13w but if things are ok and there's no complications then I don't see why I can't.
