Would you let someone be the God parent of your child if you didn’t like their SO?

Question

My best friend and I have been best friends for 14 years. 
She has been with her SO for 5 years. They  broke up in may (he’s been unfaithful their entire relationship, lies/ manipulates) but she still communicates/ sees him and has him over from time to time. She needs to heal/ dealing with the breakup her own way, whatever, not my business. 
But I originally wanted her to be the godmother of my son. I just don’t know what to do if they end up back together. Overall he’s not the type of person I want around my children (or myself for that matter). 
I love her and support whatever she wants to do in her personal life, but I wouldn’t want my child staying the night with her if they’re together. I couldn’t let her ex influence my son in anyway. I want my child to have a relationship with their god parents because I have an amazing relationship with mine and my Godson.

There's a big difference between an SO and a long term partner.  I think it's reasonable to talk to your friend and make your concerns known about whatever relationship her current SO would have with your child but I don't think you need eliminate her as a potential godmother. I think you can tell her that you want her in the baby's life in this role you cherish but you'd be more comfortable if all interactions took place in your own home without the presence of her current SO. If she asks why, feel free to tell her that you don't like the way her SO treats her, and you want all interactions to be as stress free and positive as possible. And if she presses, you can tell her that you want to model healthy adult relationships from the get go and her SO gets in the way of that.

You're probably freaked about choosing godparents, seems so weird to be that prepared because you never think it will happen to you or at least that's how I felt. Considering that you are going to be the most incredible mother, you must know from experience that when it comes to picking somebody else to raise your kids, no one seems right. 💚 No one is you. And so you choose someone who is most like you. Someone that will give the kids a taste of their real mom, the mom they lost and never really got to know. Of course, she'll have lots of fights with the kids, yet she'll find a way to make up. I know sometimes she'll mess things up and makes big mistakes. On the other hand, she also makes big comebacks? Respect her? Give her a shot? She will certainly need some help learning how to be a mother to your kids, but you've got the godfather for that plus some other help? ☺️
