I know the scientific explanation behind love hormones and brain chemistry, and for a long time I think I had myself convinced that monogamous coupledom was impossible and an everlasting, deep bond would be out of reach after the hormones settled down, but damnit, my husband has made me rethink my cynicism. Sometimes, it's nice to be a cynic and have something completely turn you upside down and stomp on your... Somewhat more depressing convictions. It's only been 9 years, but he's like a much loved appendage that I couldn't bear to live without. Sure, I'd find a way to carry on if the worst should happen, but this love is deeply entrenched and it would be a damn shame to not have it. It goes far beyond just affection, it's the best friendship that I can imagine, it's a partner to share the triumphs and to lean on when the shit hits the fan. It's knowing someone so well that words don't even need to be exchanged, since you already know the others thoughts. I don't know why, I don't know how, I can't explain it logically and I never considered myself a romantic but I'm sure starting to sound like one. I only know that I hope everyone experiences it, should they so desire, it's pretty incredible stuff.
