How to get smoke smell out of clothes?

Anyone know? A little girl gave me some clothes for our unborn daughter... I have washed in dawn, than with regular detergent.. and they still smell like smoke. I don't want to throw them out.. but I refuse to dress my baby in smokey clothes. Her parents are smokers and it cringes me how they smoke with her in the house. Not judging them, just wish they wouldn't do it.

My Mother and father in law smoke like chimneys. But, they have bought beautiful clothing for my daughter. I didn’t have the heart to tell them and also didn’t want to waste their money by throwing them out, so I began researching! 
The trick is to wash with one full cup of white vinegar and double the amount of detergent you’d normally use. I do one load like this, then re-wash them in her dreft/baby detergent to protect her skin. 
Works like a charm! Smoke smell is completely gone. I’m a worry wart and there’s no way I’d put anything on my daughter with even the slightest smell!

Personally I wouldn’t use it for my brand new baby. Even if the smell was gone, who knows if all the chemicals are still in the fabric or not. To each their own....but for me it’s not worth it.

Third hand smoke is just starting to be studied.  Washing doesn't get it out and it can impact the health of your child.  Please Toss the clothes in the garbage fornthe health of your child

I'd trash them. Too many chemicals can stick to the fabric.. even if the smell is gone, there can still be traces.

I hung them up outside. They aired out, and then I washed them in Dreft. Took care of it for me!
