Inducing at 39 weeks is that ok?

Question

So today my doctors told me they want to induce me at 39 weeks. For no real reason why.. I'm 21 this is my first pregnancy, I was under the impression its best to get to full term 41 weeks? So why induce? Also I've been told the drugs they give you to speed up labor makes contractions more painful?
Can anyone tell me their stories on being induced and how they do this???

If there is no legitimate reason for your doctor to induce you then why would you consent to it? While 39 weeks is fine to deliver, your baby more than likely isn't done developing quite yet. You're young and I assume you're little to no risk, just let your pregnancy run it's natural course and tell your doctor that you won't induce without cause.
Pitocin creates contractions that are stronger than your hormones and endorphins can keep up with for pain management b/c the contractions didn't build naturally. Most inductions and/or pitocin drips lead to epidurals (which if that is part of your plan that's fine). And 50% of inductions lead to c-sections.

If they are doing it for no reason it's only to fill their pockets and get some free time for themselves. They are obviously not even factoring your wishes in any of it. Best way to go is to let nature take it course, go into labor on your own. Your baby will come out when he/she is ready to come out

If there isn't a medical reason I wouldnt. lots opt to and I had both.. went into labor on my own and had to be induced.. wasn't crazy about pitocin.. bjjt my SIL was induced with her first for no reason and said it was a nightmare...

I’m being induced at 39 weeks as well. Honesty, makes planning easier. We have dogs that need fed and let out to potty, my s/o is a teacher whose students rely heavily on consistency so finding a sub in advance who will be ready to go at a certain date is beneficial. It also gives me peace of mind that there’s less of a chance I’ll go into labor by myself at home, 45 mins away from the hospital and I have a better chance of seeing my doctor instead of someone on call. 
I’ve read horror stories about induction and I’ve read great stories about induction. Every person I’ve spoken in person with has said they wouldn’t change a thing after being induced. You can get stories from a million people but when it comes down to it, your body is going to react how it’s going to react. 🤷🏼‍♀️
I personally think it’s a little too “conspiracy theory “ when people say the doctors just want money, etc and that’s why they recommend inducing. It’s never recommended if there aren’t complications. It’s just a suggestion. One a doctor would not make if it were harmful to you or baby. Do what you feel comfortable with. If you don’t want to be induced, don’t be. I doubt the doctor is going to be offended. 
Just remember it’s a PERSONAL choice. Every one will have an opinion about it. Which is why you should do what YOU feel comfortable with.

i was induced at 38 weeks with absolutely no medical reason. My daughter is a healthy 9 yr old. I got induced because my doctor would be out of town and he wanted to make sure I would not go in labor while he was out. I did not have to wait it was all scheduled. Quick, and I knew what and when everything was happenning. I am pregnant again and probably will be induce by 38 weeks. I am actually scared in going into labor while being on my own. Baby daddy left me when I was 15 weeks pregnant. I wouldn't worry much about it.

Weird that there isn’t a good reason for it? I had my first son at 39 weeks 1 day naturally and he was completely healthy. I was 19 years old.

You are considered term at 37 weeks.

I was induced at 37 1/2 weeks with my 8 year old son. And they are aiming for 38-39 weeks for my current pregnancy. 39 weeks is perfectly safe but if you are concerned just ask the doctor what their reasoning is. I am sure they will explain and it will relieve  your concerns.

If youre fine with being induced i dont see a problem. but if you wanted to try for a natural birth tell your doc and say unless i have to be induced i want to wait. they cant force you to do anything.
