Thinking about starting an anti-bully/diversity awareness program for my child’s school...

I live out in “the boonies” and my neighbor/best friend is Muslim. Given that we are out in a rural area that isn’t very diverse, she clearly gets some very unnecessary and harsh comments on occasion. Her children hide who they are because they’re scared of what the other kids or even teachers might say about their religion.

I was bullied all through school. To the point where I didn’t want to go and begged my mom to keep me home. I always felt alone and isolated.

My situation and my best friend’s situation got me thinking...

What if she and I started an anti-bully/diversity awareness program for our school district? Where we go and talk to the kids about bullying, differences and how powerful our words can be. But it wouldn’t just stop there. We’d set up a program in the school where kids get to know other kids that may be different from themselves and we’d have to do some activities, play some games and get to know one another BEFORE they explain their differences (ex. The Muslim child and the Christian child would hang out and spend time with each other, once they were comfortable they’d tell each other how they are different) and maybe then we could teach them from a young age that people are more than just their race, religion, socioeconomic class, etc. I mean obviously my idea isn’t perfect...I JUST came up with this like 10 min ago. Lol. But what do you all think? Any ideas to make mine better?
