The Proposal...
How did your SO propose? I always find it interesting to hear how a couple got engaged. I have heard some pretty funny stories so I was just wondering if anyone had some to share- even if they aren't YOUR proposal stories....
My Story
My husband and I had planned 6 months in advance before we went to the Celtic Medieval Faire in 2012. My family is VERY Irish and my husband very Scottish. When we went to the Celtic Medieval Faire I saw a Claddaugh ring that I really liked. I didn't know that he had been planning on proposing any time soon so when he bought it for me when I wasn't looking and then in the middle of the Faire he got down on one knee and proposed with the Claddaugh. Since it wasn't made for wearing every day, my husband and I went to the jeweler and found a diamond Claddaugh ring and a wedding band we thought would look nice with it and used the Claddaugh as the engagement ring. Luckily everything was on sale and my husband was THRILLED both of my rings only came out to be about $900 together :-)
A little background on the Claddaugh ring:
"While Claddagh rings are sometimes used as friendship rings, they are most commonly used as engagement and wedding rings. Mothers sometimes give these rings to daughters when they come of age. There are several mottos and wishes associated with the ring, such as: "Let love and friendship reign." In Ireland, the United States, Canada, and other parts of the Irish diaspora, the Claddagh is sometimes handed down mother-to-eldest daughter or grandmother-to-granddaughter. According to Irish author Colin Murphy, the way in which a Claddagh ring was worn with the intention of conveying the wearer's relationship status:
On the right hand with the point of the heart toward the fingertips, the wearer is single and may be looking for love.
On the right hand with the point of the heart toward the wrist, the wearer is in a relationship.
On the left hand with the point of the heart toward the fingertips, the wearer is engaged.
On the left hand with the point of the heart toward the wrist, the wearer is married." [Taken from Wikipedia]
I have attached some pictures- one if our wedding rings at the church and one of my wedding ring from the website.
