What???

So my bf has been talking to his ex lately, she has had a few family issues to deal with and has been venting to him, i don't mind it at all but he just got a text from her saying "Why is your head so messed up?" I wasn't snooping on his mobile before anyone asks. I asked him about it and he looked confused so i asked if he wanted to talk about anything on his mind to which he responded " I'd tell you if there was babe." I don't know how to approach it ladies. any pearls of wisdom?
