Would you want child support????

asking for a friend::: she has a child, 3 year old.. for the first 2 years she didn't know who the father was, now she does obviously.. well in the whole year the father has known the child is his, they have only seen each other once {they live in different states btw}. the father also hardly contacts the mother to ask how the child is doing. the mother hasn't asked for child support yet but is/was going to file. the father recently messaged her and told her he wants nothing to do with them but would still pay child support if it was court ordered. now her question is if she should still file for it or just say fuck it and fuck him and not have her child have someone in their life who obviously wants nothing to do with them.
