Mom is pushing for me to get an epidural...

Kayce
I would like to have a natural birth experience, but I am not totally ruling out an epidural. I am practicing Hypnobabies, we hired a doula, and my husband is very supportive of this decision. However, my mom is really worried about it and keeps saying that I need to get an epidural. She brings it up almost every time I see her and even has other people try to tell me how painful it will be and that I will want one before it is too late. She keeps bringing up how one of my friends was recently in labor for 22 hrs and didn't even get to enjoy her baby afterward because she was so tired and miserable.
This is my first birth and I want to try as many methods possible before I have the epidural...I have enough issues with this pregnancy as it is and I have read that epidural have a higher chance of leading to more medical interventions. I have told her this and she then goes on to say how my grandma and my mom had to have their waters broken before they transitioned...and it only took one push for my mom to have me. "You had better get it while you can!"
Hypnobabies instructs for me to stop negative talk about child birth in its tracks as it occurs...but I am a southern gal and its my mom. How should I approach my mom to tell her I appreciate her advice, but lay off...in a respectful way?
