Makena Shot???

My doctor told me today at my appointment that I'll have to get the Makena shot since I have a history of preterm labor. Have any of you ladies also had to have this shit? If so, could you tell me your experience with It?

I went into preterm labor with my son at 30 weeks and delivered him at 35w4d. With this pregnancy I've been on makena since 16 weeks and I'm 29. I've been having contractions since 20 weeks, and started dilating at 26 weeks🙄 I have also had 2 steroid injections to help develop baby's lungs. I'm supposed to continue them until 36 weeks but I honestly think I'll stop after 34.

My daughter was born premature (27 weeks) so now with my son the recommended the Makena injection. I’ve been taking it for about 12 weeks now, alternating bum cheeks and by God THEY HURT!!! The actual poke isn’t bothersome, it’s about 24 hours after when the injection site starts to swell, burns like hell and itches! My dr recommend a hydrocortisone cream for the itching and hot/cold compresses for the swelling. Very uncomfortable, I wouldn’t wish these on anyone. Their also a bitch to get. You almost never get approved thru your insurance the first time you request them, and I get mine thru a specialty pharmacy that most of the workers don’t know their ass from their face.

I'm pregnant with twins and this is my first pregnancy. I'm 19 weeks and I started taking them at 16 weeks to hopefully help with pre-term labor. From my understanding it's not completely preventative but there's a chance it could help so it is worth it. It stings pretty bad while it's going in, it's super thick so it takes a little while. I threw up the first time I got it but now I feel like a pro..you get used to it 😂

I had it with my daughter my son was preemie 29+4 with her i started 18 weeks even and ended 35 weeks even carried to 37 weeks and was induced she showed low weight on high risk scans the only problem i had with the shots was i would get the red raised itchy lump at the injection site which is very very common my shots vials and needles were shipped to my home and my husbands gma who is a retired RN who lives with us gave them to me every week we alternated right cheek was even weeks left cheek was odd weeks so that there werent so much on one side 
Never put it in the thigh that hurts like an SOB we tried one week to give the butt a rest biggest mistake ever

I opted out of it because everyone I know that has gotten it had severe headaches or labor cramps following. After researching that it barely reduces the risks of preterm labor, we opted for cream rather than the shot. It’s literally a shot of progesterone. The cream has given me no ill effects.
