IUD - what does it do?

Question

How effective is an IUD? Does it hurt? How is your period effected by it? 
My mom would like me to get one because I'm going to college and she thinks I'm going to get drunk and have sex 😂
I know, it's crazy, but you don't know my family. 
But I've done some research and there's a lot of contradicting things. I would love y'alls opinion on it! ❤️

There are a few different options. Paragard is hormone free, but it can cause heavier periods. I have Kyleena, which is small and recommended for us ladies who have not had children. The insertion was painful but very quick. I spotted for about a month, and now I rarely bleed. I don’t have any negative side effects like I did on the pill, and it’s nice to not have to think about it all the time!
Also I would say don’t use it as an alternative for condoms unless you’re in a long term relationship. Cuz it doesn’t protect against STDs.

I loved my Mirena for the most part.. The insertion was painful but only for a few days.. Then I was super super regular and it really helped to shorten my periods and helped with cramps.. But a few months ago when I went to have it removed (now currently TTC🤞🏻) one of the arms was caught.. I’m honestly not sure if it had embedded into my uterus beforehand or if it happened in the middle of trying to remove it.. The doctor didn’t want to try to push it in or pull it out ( that would risk it falling apart and have pieces floating around) so I had to walk around for almost a week with it still halfway out.. TMI but I could literally feel it scraping (the insertion was nothing compared to the pain I was feeling then).. I had to have it surgically removed with a D&C..; 
So would I get another IUD? Probably not because now that I’m married we’re not worried about getting pregnant. I honestly might not even worry about it after we have a baby🤷🏻‍♀️ Maybe I would if I was single and very much avoiding pregnancy, because in that aspect it really really did its job and there was little to no upkeep when compared to other forms of birth control.. I’m sorry for the long post but there is my experience from start to finish😊 Hope it helps😊

I agree... everyone is different. I also had the Mirena. I was worried at first that it’d move or something but it didn’t. My cycles have always been irregular and remained that way while it was placed. My issue with it really was that a week and a day after my daughter turned 4 mine slipped out as I went to wipe after using the restroom. It didn’t hurt, but I was scared. That happened in Feb of this yr... by March I was pregnant. It’s supposed to work for 5 yrs, but clearly mine didn’t🤷🏽‍♀️

Everyone is different but I have the Mirena. I absolutely hate it and I am getting it taken out in December.
