Putting baby in own room

Was it hard for your to put your baby in their own room? My boyfriend keeps bringing up that we should put our son in his room soon, I told him I still want to wait a few months(hes only 4 months). But I’m just having a hard time being separated from him like that. Also because his room is downstairs and ours is upstairs, we have a small house so it’s not really that far but still. I feel like it’ll also be hard for me because my boyfriend works nights 4 days a week so obviously I’m alone all night with my son, and I feel better having him next to me. But tonight I’m sure he’s going to tell me to put him in his room because we have to sleep in the living room tonight and probably for a while, while our upstairs is getting new floors. But I’m anxious about doing that! Did anyone else go through this? How do I separate myself when the time comes that I should? Or even just tonight when we’re in the next room?! Especially when my boyfriend is working?
