Living off of minimum wage, is it possible?? ðŸ˜
So I am 19 years old and starting college soon. So I got hired at a healthcare facility for a housekeeping position. I have no children. And I’ll be working 4 days/8hr shifts, and then 2 days off, and so on. So about 21 days out of each month I will work 8 hr shifts. It is in a great location, right by the college I will be attending and the apartments I’ll be moving to. I have great hours (2nd shift, what I wanted.), and I met some of the people I would be working with and they were all super nice. Well today I learned I will only be making minimum wage for the first 3 months until we get a raise to $8. In my state minimum wage is $7.25. So at first I was like yup, I’ll have to find a different job. But now I’m second guessing it. I love the place and where it’s at. Also housekeeping jobs seem more laid back and I’ll get 2 paid breaks and one unpaid 30 minute break, and with my previous job we never got any kind of break. It’s somewhere I can see myself actually enjoying until I’m through with college. And the program I will Be in is only 8 months long and then I can get a job in medical records. The only problem is, I’m moving into an apartment with my boyfriend a couple of weeks. He will be paying most of the bills but I’ll throw in $200 each month. Also I pay $209 for my car insurance, $50 for my phone bill, about $150-$200 a month for gas and cigarettes (I know, I smoke and drive a lot. I have been trying to quit smoking!) and also I will need to help buy some groceries, shampoo, etc etc. so my question is, has anybody ever been through this and lived kind of comfortable? If that makes sense. And does anybody have any tips on saving money? I’ve never moved out so I’ll take all the advice I can!! Thankyou.
