Can I ask for a c-section??

I just found out I have genital herpes. I have had no signs or anything from it so it was a huge shock to me. I am almost 30 weeks pregnant and terrified about the herpes. Can I ask for a c-section to be on the safe side???

I was told that taking valtrex 6 weeks prior to delivery should prevent an outbreak before labor.  As long as you don't have an active outbreak you should not pass it on to your baby.  A c-section is a lot more difficult to recover from, so I personally would prefer NOT to have one unless absolutely have to.  Good luck!

Just take the medication every day and you will be fine. I had two natural births and no complications from having herpes. A c section is not something you should elect to have. It is serious surgery and recovery. The danger to baby is just as bad having c section as going natural.

Discuss it with your OB. Protocol is to do the c-section if you have an active outbreak, but if not, then a vaginal birth is completely safe.

I also recently found out I have genital herpes (through blood tests I requested when I found out my ex was cheating) with no signs. Dr said they put you on valtrex the last 4-6 weeks to prevent an outbreak at birth. If you do have an active infection at birth, they will do a c section.

You can ask doctor to be placed on Valcyclovir (Valtrex) last couple weeks of pregnancy and you'll be fine.

Def ask your dr! If the virus is passed to your child during birth it can cause brain damage! Not worth the risk in my opinion!
