Why do people throw the word divorce around so easily?

Two of my friends are both going through so marriage trouble this weekend and they are both so easily to say “we need to separate” or “I want to divorce”. They say it a lot and that’s not something that you causally say when you are mad. Don’t get me wrong, my husband and I are far from perfect (we took a two month break before we even got married) but before we got married we agreed that we would never say that word or bring it up even in an argument. Do you feel like people throw that word around too often?
