I need opinions!
So my son is a week old tomorrow, and is strictly breastfed. He has done such an amazing job, even when they gave him to me 10 minutes after delivery to eat, he latched right on and ate for an hour and a half. And I plan on breastfeeding strictly for as long as I can. I planned on waiting to use the pacifier until at least a month, but last night, running on zero sleep, he didn’t want his dad, he only wanted me and my nipple and I know the boy wasn’t hungry. He just sucks and goes to sleep after feedings if he’s being fussy. But if I give him to dad, he fusses if he wakes up and realizes it isn’t me. So in a desperate measure, I had to give him one, because I’d rather that, than fall asleep with him and wake up to something tragic. He wasn’t sure about it at first, but took to it and went to sleep in his bassinet all swaddled up. My question is, I’ve heard from everybody and every source on the internet that using a pacifier at night reduces the risk of SIDS, and that’s something of course every new mama is terrified with, but I don’t want him to get hooked on it, just have it if he needs to suck and he’s already eaten, so he doesn’t one, overfeed, but so I can get some sleep every other day at least😂 it also doesn’t make since to me that it would reduce the risk, because in my mind, he’s on his back with a pacifier, what if he throws up? I know he’ll end up swallowing it or turning his head, but I just incision the throw up getting stuck in his throat. Idk I’m a helicopter mom at its finest. I’ve already told his dad that he will not give it to him every time he’s being fussy, I will try everything before, and if he’s just fussing because he wants to suck, he can have it, probably until he’s deep in sleep and I’ll take it. I’m more than likely not going to give him one at night and if I do give him one to go to sleep, I’ll take it out when he’s asleep so he doesn’t grow dependent on it. I really only want him to have it when he needs to suck, but that’s it. I just need opinions, and maybe some experience stories would be greatly appreciated. Thank you❤️
