What is your bank account situation with your current spouse/partner?

My husband and I currently have a personal bank account each and then 1 shared joint account for bills. Well we just purchased a car and upgraded insurance and now my husband brought up merging accounts.. ___________________________________________ I immediately said no because I like my independence with my personal account. He seemed bothered that after being married 3 years I wouldn't completely merge accounts to share funds. I mean we don't struggle what so ever and there is always plenty in the joint to cover bills. Am I crazy to want to hold onto what little financial independence that I have? We both work, pay bills, pay for a mortgage, etc... I am curious how it works in your house and how it makes you feel!

we've had a joint account since before we were married. I don't believe in having separate money or being "independent". once you are married you are one. what's mine is his and what's his is mine. we never discuss who's money is who's, who paid more for bills or groceries, it's all the same.

We've been married for 10 years and have always had joint checking. When we were both working, when I was working while he was in school, and now that I'm stay at home mom. We sit down 3 days before payday and budget together to make sure all of our bills are paid, decide on what goes to savings and the rest sits in checking in case one of us needs something. There's no "asking permission" to make purchases for ourselves unless it's a large amount of money. We both have equal access to all of our assets and we both have what we need. We're a team. The student loans that are in my husband's name are not "his", they're the cost of a accomplishing our goal of allowing me to be a stay at home mom. When I was the sole income, his needs weren't a burden on me, his needs were just his needs. My 60+ hour work weeks were just the cost of working toward our goal.
I am often told that we're strange or that I'm some how subservient or dependent because I "don't have my own money", but frankly I have more money now than I ever did when I was single.

I have a joint account where we put a percentage of each paycheck into the joint account. Then we have individual checking accounts that we use for us things like buying each other gifts or the occasional coffee without having to worry about overdrawing the joint account. Then we each have a savings that has 3 months worth f bills saved up as a safety in case one of us loses our job. We both know how much is in all our accounts at any given point there are no secrets but we still have our personal accounts.

And $200 each month goes into both our personal  accounts ($400 a month in total) and we can do whatever we like with it. I spend mine on food. He saves his and buys dumb shit like Xbox games 😝😝

we each work but I have student loans that I pay by myself, I will not allow him to pay for me. so we each have our own checking and savings separately. we also have a checking and savings together that we each put money into. right now we are saving for a car but this money can also be for emergencies.
