Getting married young ??

Question

My boyfriend and I have been talking about getting engaged lately. This is my first relationship and sex partner. He has dated other girls before me and had sex twice. But he says I'm the first real girlfriend he has been with and first committed relationship. He says I have changed his way of thinking about marriage which no other girl has ever done. We've been together for 2 1/2years he's 19 I'm 18. And started talking when we were just 15 & 16 . Although I have never been with anyone else , I feel in my heart that he's the one And he says I'm the one . My grandparents got married at 18 & 19 and they are still married 50yrs later . Both of our families support our relationship, his family likes me and my family likes him. But when we talk about marriage it's kind of not a good topic. They think I'm too young but every time I bring up the fact that my grandparents got married young and are still married their isn't that much of a rebutle. I do plan on going to college and he already started. Do you think I'm too young to get married? Any advice on teen marriage and commitment?

It's funny that a lot of people use the fact that their grandparents, great grandparents got married, had babies ect really young, but these people forget that 40, 50, 60 years ago women did not nor were they allowed to go to college, work outside the home or really do anything independently for that matter. Living together and having sex and even children outside of marriage was absolutely looked down upon. Women especially got married young because when you turned 18 it was no longer your parents responsibility to take care of you and since women weren't allowed to go to college or work outside the home the logical thing was to marry. Divorce at that time was completely looked down upon too. So when you were married that was it.

Things are completely different now.  You can have all these things but not have to rush into a marriage. Why not live together for a few years. Take some time to spend alone as a couple. Because the transition to being around someone constantly and be a BIG adjustment. If in a few years you still feel the same way then go ahead with it. It is MUCH easier and cheaper to break up then it is to divorce.

Engaged. Then go from there.

I got married when I was 19 and it ended less than 10 years later and was fairly miserable for the last 3-4 years. By the time you are in your mind 20s you are SO different from who you used to be. So will your partner. Even if you can make it work you will have thrown away a lifetime of opportunities that you'll never get back.

I'm going to be engaged at 17 married at 19. It's not about the age, it's about the commitment and hard work paired with maturity. I'm not going to be attending college, since my photography career is already successful, and my bf is almost 24 and way done Uni. It's all about what you feel is right for you, and if you feel you're ready.

I got married at 18. He is the only person I ever really loved. Just make sure you work out every single kink before you walk down the aisle. Don't do it till you're absolutely sure that's what you both want.

Well I'm 20 and engaged and my family and other people think I'm too young too but at the end of the day if it works for you two then I wouldn't really listen to anyone else opinion after all it's just an opinion I'm going to college too and so is he you can do it all you'll just be engaged /married it's nothing different and if a little one happened to pop up well your going to be married or already married so its not much to really say. I'm not moving in with by fiance until after we are married but it doesn't hurt to test the water .

Relationships change. People change. You're different from when you first started and you'll be even more different in 10 years. Wait until after college when you have more life experiences.
