any firefighter wife's or girlfriends on here?

My boyfriend is currently with the volunteer fire dept but he is bout to take his civil test and physical test for the fire dept where I live which means he will be a full time firefighter. what should I know bout the training and that type of life style?

Answer

Wife of a volunteer and career firefighter. He works 24hrs then he’s off for 72. He also works part time as a fire inspector. There are weeks where we barely see/talk to each other. He’s an assistant chief w the volunteers. There’s always something going on. There are days where I hate it bc im selfish and want to spend time with my husband. There are times when I put dinner on the table and his alarm goes off and I’m eating by myself. We’ve been together since 2009, so it was definitely as adjustment and a lifestyle I never knew before. 
My hubs didn’t take a civil service test for his job so I’m not sure about the training. But he’s taken way too many tests for departments -in state and out of state- and received lots of disappointing letters. It’s hard and discouraging. Hubs has been w his job since 2013.
