Period while on birth control

So I started birth control last month. I mostly got on it because my period was all over the place. The first month was great I was finally off my period and living my life again. Anywho, I skipped the reminder pills of the first pack and started a new pack because I didn’t want to get my period. Now I’m on week two of the second pack and I have my period and my cramps are the worst pain ever. Is it normal to have your period while on birth control pills?
