When should you start buying diapers?

I’m thinking it would be a good idea to stock up on diapers but everyone tells me not to because the it’s a waste of money because baby could be allergic to that brand, or I’ll buy too many in the newborn size or I’ll get too many of this size. So when is the best time to buy diapers??

When you buy a box, tape the receipt to it. It’ll make returns and exchanges easier.

I got a lot of diapers at my shower I used what I could and when my daughter outgrew the others I exchanged them for a bigger size. You will only need newborn if your child is 6 oz ( or it might be 8 oz. the boxes tell weight for each size) or less. And that will probably only last 3-4 weeks. Over 6 oz is size one and will probably stay in them a couple months. And your looking at about 8-10 diapers a day. So probably only one box of newborn unless you have a big baby that immediately needs size 1. When you get to size 1 probably about 4 boxes. Hopefully these estimates will help you from having to awful many to return

I didn’t buy any before my daughter was born. I just received various diapers from showers. I used what we had and exchanged ones we didn’t need or exchanged small packages and used the return money for larger boxes to get the most bang for my buck.

I don't know if you're having a baby shower, but my family always does a "diaper raffle" where you bring a pack of diapers and get a raffle ticket for a prize. Just a suggestion! Other then that I plan to just exchange any brands/size I don't use.

if you buy from a place like Walmart, you can exchange without a receipt. however, get an Amazon prime account and buy with subscribe and save... you will save SO much money!

I have 40+ reusable nappies that can fit a new born all the way up to a 3/4year old. Unfortunately after two losses they are still sitting in the draws not being used.

if baby is allergic you can sell the opened boxes on FB marketplace and exchange the rest of that brand for whatever you like. same with if you buy too many boxes of one size. I use return the unopened boxes. I started stocking up using this chart (just something to go by, not necessarily exact):
