What did you do for your first wedding anniversary?

I want to go to Punta Cana but we have some debt and I feel like the responsible thing to do is put the $2200 towards debt. Idk what to do. We would pay cash for the trip.
Additional note: I should also add we have about $40k in savings.

Hubby & I live in Colorado & we decided to get a really nice room up in the mountains in Estes Park for the night. In addition, we went to our favorite restaurant, drove through Rocky Mountain National Park, ate a bite of our wedding cake (definitely not as good as it was on our wedding night!), & read through the messages that our wedding guests wrote for us in our “anniversary piñata” that we had! Didn’t have to spend too much money, but it was definitely a first anniversary to remember! Just the little touches here & there made it really special! I hope you guys have a blast whatever you decide to do 💜

We went to Japan for 3 weeks! But We spent the year saving.
We had a local honeymoon on a tropical island in Queensland, Aus. instead of spending so much at once with the wedding. 
Best to keep in your budget and make memories rather than looking back and thinking about the stress it may cause because of debit. 
We have had some great anniversaries when we have just gone out to our favorite restaurant or done something fun that meant more than the money spent.

We went camping at 4 state parks in Door County, WI. Lots of wineries and great views of the Lake Michigan. Unfortunately, the wine we bought is now sitting in a room since I can’t drink it.

You can find good deals on cheapcaribbean.com. We are having our wedding ceremony in Punta Cana in April. We went there once before too for 5 days around $1500 for two people including air drinks and all food. 
What kind of debt do you have? Like a car or credit cards? Personally if I had credit card debt I would use some of that $40k to pay it off because the interest is usually so high that you end up spending so much just paying interest on the cards. You are just wasting money away each month on the payments. If it was a car payment not as big of a deal if you have a good interest rate. Just my thoughts.

I spent our first anniversary caring for a septic foal. I was on round the clock care and basically living in the stall with her. My husband brought me a change of scrubs and burgers/fries from Five Guys (fast food). We ate in the resident’s lounge while my colleague took over for me for an hour so I could eat and shower. We went to vegas. But my husband travels for work and he gets points. So we didn't have to pay for air fair and hotel. Just food/ spending money. If we had to pay for everything we wouldn't have gone. If I was you I'd put that money towards the debt
