Opinions on watching t.v?

Question

As parents how you you feel about your children watching TV? Do you let them? If you don't then why not? I'm just curious as to what other opinions are. I let my 16 month old watch some t.v everyday, but no more than a couple hours. I babysit two kids who are 5 and  7, and their parents act like t.v is the devil. LOL! poor kids can only watch a movie on Friday's. what do you do? Are you ok with your kids watching TV? I'm not here to judge if you do or don't. I'm just curious.

My eldest didn’t watch TV till he was 2 years old. My younger son didn’t watch TV till he was a little over a year. I hope to do the same with my daughter. My boys watch Saturday morning cartoons and a movie on Friday nights (they’re now 5 and 3 years old). Sometimes my kids will watch a short movie while my husband and I are cooking dinner) My kids don’t suffer from not watching TV. They play with puzzles, toy cars and dinosaurs, we play with musical instruments (sometimes we use pots and pans) and we sing and read books. They play outside and we go do things in the neighbourhood and at the park. Honestly I think using their brains and motor skills is better for them then watching TV. They have active lives and a lot of fun. They’re not missing anything.  I don’t think TV is the devil, but I’d rather my kids be more active than sit and watch TV. I really believe that too many kids today become attached to electronics and I would rather prevent that for as long as possible.

I let my 18 month old watch educational shows for like an hour a day (30 minutes while I’m trying to make breakfast and get ready in the morning, and 30 minutes while I’m trying to make dinner at night.) I also let him play on one letter, shape and number app on the iPad for a few minutes a day. He already knows all of his letters, numbers through 20 and most shapes and colors. I think quite a bit of that has come from us allowing him some screen time. Obviously I read to him a lot too and we play all the time.

We don’t let our 1 year old look at any screens (tv,iPad,iPhone etc) and we plan on continuing this until she is at least three.

I have a 8 year old, almost 3 year old, and almost 18 month old. I normally have the TV on throughout the day, but 90% of the time it's just background noise. For the most part while my oldest daughter is in school my younger kids will play with their toys and periodically stop to watch a show that they really like (like Sesame Street or Thomas and Friends). Besides that they don't really notice that it's on.

My daughter is almost 4 months and we watch tv with her around, but (except for the new beauty and the beast because she loves the music in it) it's not aimed at her. We're also very active with her and always pay her more attention than the TV. But while she's nursing or napping it's nice to have some entertainment

I usually have the tv on with kid shows playing all day. My son plays with his toys and then will stop to watch tv every so often. I usually play disney jr or baby first tv.
Its how i keep my very energetic now 3 year old slightly chill throughout the day so i dont rip my hair out.
Our tv has especially been a lifesaver since my daughter was born 8 weeks ago. Dont get me wrong, we still go out to play and we do activities together. But to keep my from losing my shit, he gets to watch tv.

I am not against tv in moderation, but I won’t let my daughter watch that, videos on the computer, or anything like that until she is at least 18 months old.

Everything in moderation. I had a friend who was a stay at home mom, and basically used her tv as a babysitter. She plunked both her daughters in their pack and plays in front of the tv every waking hour and that kind of scared me... I was REALLY anti-tv while pregnant. Then I had my son and realized some tv doesn’t make me her. Our son slept in our room for almost a year and we wanted to watch our shows at night, we didn’t stop our lives just to avoid screen time. Now he’s 20 months and watches a little bit of nursery rhymes each day while I shower and cook. It keeps him out of the kitchen, and he knows well over 100 words since songs are so relatable at his age.

I think occasionally is fine. I don’t think screens are the devil. My baby is 8 months old and I use the TV to play music during the day on YouTube, or Moana, or anything with a lot of music, just for sound. She hardly even looks at the screen, she just dances to the music and plays. She plays with my phone occasionally, but again she’s not really looking at the screen, she’s just holding the phone and slobbering on it. 
I think as long as your kid isn’t zombie-ing out staring at a screen all the time, it’s no big deal.
