Do I get my hours paid?
Hello, so I live in California and work in the mall. Currently, there's an un-contained fire and I was scheduled to work Tuesday 10-4. This week I only have 3 days scheduled; that's 18 hours. I got my hours on Monday but because of the fire I wasn't sure if I go in Tuesday morning. So, I called my manager and she said that the mall will be operating at normal hours and I have to go in. I went in to open and let me tell you, no other stores were open. Sure, the employees were there but the stores weren't actually open for business. Security walked around and told us they'd let us know within an hour of we had close. At 11am we all closed. The weather outside was horrid. The whole sky was just dark grey filled with smoke because of the wildfire happening three streets away. Okay, then I called the manager that I had to close which I did. I only went in for that hour. Do i just get paid for that hour? Or, do I get paid for my usual 6 hour shift since I had to go and open/close? I read online and I claim non-exempt.. I'm still a bit confused.
