birth control help!

My doctor prescribed me loestrin 120. I've been on it for 2 weeks. I started my period the week before starting the pill. I started taking it the Sunday my period ended. now, I'm bleeding really really heavy. My normal periods are fairly light and manageable, but this is worse. is it my period again? I quit taking the pill when I started bleeding 4 days ago, because I thought it was another period. now I don't want to take it anymore. is this normal? I did call my Dr. he said to keep taking it, but I refuse.
