Can sex make your flow heavier?

Question

I’ve been on birth control for three years now for periods. So it’s very light now and regulated. I just started having sex and i had sex the same day my period started but before it started, earlier in the day. it made my cramps really really bad and now two days later my flow is soooo heavy. I soaked through a tampon overnight which I hardly ever do. I just want to know if having sex has any impact on this, I wouldn’t think so but I have no other explanation

Yes, it has happened to me even though  I wasn't on the pill. I didn't know I was getting my period that day and we had sex so after it my period came and I had the worst cramps and a very heavy flow which is not normal for me. I have also had sex almost at the end of my period when I'm just spotting and it brings it right back with bad cramps.  So I think is normal since when we have sex, especially if we have an orgasm, blood flow in our body increases to our uterus and  our uterus contracts leading to a heavier period.

I was on the pill & sometimes after me & my fiancé had sex it did make my period a bit heavier. Like you, the pills completely regulated me. I had light periods that was every 28-29 days. I’ve even had my period last a day longer because of sex & the cramping did get worse for me as well. If you feel as if something else could be wrong, definitely see your doctor.
