Christmas dinner?

My parents did not allow us to celebrate Christmas as children and I've never been to a traditional family Christmas dinner. This year, we are hosting my husbands family. Our son is 2, and even since we were married, we just haven't done a big dinner with our Christmas by ourselves at home. But this year, I want everything to be perfect, since we'll be having a house full of people to feed. What kind of food do I cook? I know I'll be making a ham, but what kind of sides? Do people do the same thing as Thanksgiving, like stuffing and cranberry sauce? Or there special dishes that are traditional for Christmas?

We are doing turkey again because I'm pregnant and want that. You could do stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, dinner rolls and a vegetable.

Traditionally, I think most people do just about the same thing as they did for thanksgiving. My family, however, immigrated from Italy. And we have 7 different types of seafood on Christmas Eve because that’s traditional in Italy. Do whatever you want girl!!!

Stuffing and cranberry sauce for sure! Pies of different assortments, candied sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, seasonal baked veggies, green bean casserole.
There isn’t a really a “correct” Christmas dinner. I’d ask your husband what they normally have for Christmas dinner.
I had a family of 3 growing up, my mom, dad and me. We didn’t do shit except food XD

I think traditions for Christmas are much more family-specific. We tend to have a nice meal - often ham - but all the other sides aren't particularly holiday related, just favorite family dishes. Deviled eggs, grandma's rolls, aunt's broccoli salad recipe. I don't think you'll go wrong with whatever you choose!

Google is your friend. Ask for traditional (insert region or ethnicity) Christmas dishes. Different people in different areas have different traditions, american, southern, Italian, Irish etc. Cranberry usually accompanies turkey, so it's not served with ham. Mashed potatoes is very traditional, maybe macaroni & cheese, green bean casserole, sweet potato, turnip, butternut squash. I could go on for days.

On my husband’s side of the family for holiday dinners if we do a turkey we do mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, deviled eggs, cranberry sauce, cole slaw, a roll or biscuit, green bean casserole, macaroni and cheese bake and a couple of pies.  If we cook a ham the only thing we sometimes do differently is make potato salad or have no potato at all instead of mashed potatoes and gravy.
On my side of the family for holiday dinners we do a big ham at thanksgiving (no turkey because of family allergies) and then the same sides my husband does with their turkey and my mom makes baked beans as well.  On Christmas, since we have all had 2 to 3 thanksgivings with other relatives and 2 Christmas dinners with all the traditional fixings by the time we get to my side for the last holiday meal for the year, we go completely off grid.  We either do a big lasagna, spaghetti, garlic bread, and salad or we make a taco bar with all the taco, burrito, or taco salad fixings because let’s face it by the time you have had the same traditional meals approximately 5 to 6 times your palate is ready for a break lol.

I think everyone has their own preferences and traditions. my Christmas feast is the exact same this year except with cobbler instead of pie :) We do:
turkey, stuffing, gravy, slow cooked mashed potatoes, a veggie casserole (green bean or sweet potato), a fresh buttery veggie (carrots or corn). 
Something i did this year that i highly recommend if you have a bundt pan is to cook the stuffing in it!!! so neat to serve!
