Do you tell people you have Herpes?

I know that’s fucked up for me to even ask. I’ve had HSV1 for 6 years. I had my initial breakout and one this year when I was very stressed. I also take antivirals daily. I used to tell every guy, but since I don’t get outbreaks I just stopped. Also everytime I told a guy, they would say ‘uhhhhh so I don’t care.’ So i just kind of figured what’s the point? Am I a terrible person for not telling people anymore?

I don't think you should be required to tell anyone unless you are sexually active with them and have symptoms of an outbreak. Otherwise, don't worry about it.

You really need to tell them EVERYTIME. If someone has HIV or AIDS wouldn’t you expect them to tell you? I ALWAYS TELL. Doesn’t matter if they don’t care. Not only is it wrong but you could also get sued. It can spread at anytime. It’s less likely without a breakout yes but it can still spread. It’s really not your decision to make, it’s whoever you’re choosing to sleep with. 100% there decision. I wish all the time the person who gave it to me would have told me! Put your big girl panties on and woman up. Don’t be a pansy that doesn’t tell cuz your embarrassed.

My love and I are in a very committed relationship, and he also has Genital herpes because of me. I didn't know I had it and it didn't show up in any tests after I was raped. My friends know that I have it because I depended on them for support when I got the diagnosis. They still love me the same and so does my SO.

I only tell ppl i intend on being intimate or serious with..no need to be out adding my status to the introduction of myself...Hey im Cee i have HSV no thankx lol... you're right most ppl ive told dnt care but it still gives me relief knowing they know so there are no surprises if it ever it is accidentally transmitted to ur partner...not only that but i wish the person i got it from would have respected me enough to allow me to choose whether or not i wanted to take that risk for or with them. although HSV is not something that is life threatening its not something i would've CHOOSEN to deal with for the rest of my life...so i think u should be open n honest about it n trust me it gets easier to say and if they choose not to deal with u because of it they are clearly not for u...good luck

My doc said 99% of the community gets cold sores, it’s how it gets transmitted to the genitals. It’s a skin virus...the largest organ. So stay self-aware, and gentle with yourself and your partner if you know they want to have sex with you! Everybody shouldn’t know your business. I would keep watch with my partner while we go over test scores, and don’t assume it’s avoidable to be transmitted during intercourses.
