Giving your child a name but using the nickname for their name ?

Question

If we have a son we would name him after his Dad and my Dad - Leon Sering but will not call him either we will call him by his nickname - Leo. It's very important to my husband's father that he legally have his name.

Our son (almost 8 weeks!) legally is Christopher George-Allan - his father is Christopher and the middle names are after both grandfathers. We call him CJ (Christopher Junior) and he is a sweetheart ❤

Nicknames are great. We have Eloise, but call her Ellie.
I was okay just straight naming her Ellie, but husband wanted a full name for when she's in trouble 😂

My daughter's name is Monique but I always planned on her going by Nikki. Mostly everyone calls her Nikki, so when she does get called Monique it feels more intimate because it's only those close to her who call her that. Nikki isn't formal enough for me to have named her that.

my brother wanted to name his youngest coral but his ex wouldn't agree to just that and they didn't like the name Caroline but both liked coraline so they name her that but only call her coral. no one calls her coraline ever so idk why his ex just didn't agree to that name but it's fine. She has a unique nickname.

We won’t use a name if it doesn’t have a nickname. I like to give kids an option for a shorter or longer name. 
I’ve got a Zach (Zachariah) a Ben (Benjamin) and a Gabe (Gabriel). I almost never use their full names.
