Help with boyfriend

I have been with my partner for 3 years and all of a sudden he’s just found out his grandad from his dads side had passed away and he’s blaming him acting angry and unpleasant and speaking to girls on him “grieving” but I have litterally never known him to have a Grandad on this side up until now my partner is know to be a attention seeker as such and to play on things to get away with things that most wouldn’t am I being insensitive bare in mind its my mums year death anniversary on Christmas Day and my Grandad who was a dad to me in February please I just need advice
