Potluck Wedding?

I am newly engaged and am getting married on September 21st, 2018. I am thinking about having a potluck wedding instead of catering it. I have extreme gluten allergies and find meat to be repulsive. In my town (a small town in oregon) there is NO caterers that will cater to my allergy and the ones that might want $20 per person (For 50+ people, I'm not paying that much). what do you think of potluck weddings? And I am not going to be the bride who cannot eat anything at my own wedding just to make my guests happy.

I had a pot luck wedding , and it turned out great ! No one was upset that I'd asked them to bring anything they were excited that we wanted them to share our day with us 😁 it turned out pretty well there was something for everyone . Good luck and congratulations 😃

No offense but I find it tacky...as pp said, just pay for regular catering and have a special meal just for you. Guests don’t share your allergies and taste 😕

So just go with normal catering and look at getting yourself a special meal made for just one person. I’m sure you could find one place that will do that. Then you don’t have to worry about not eating and you don’t have to pay an outrageous amount. Don’t need to be too crazy about it.

Please don’t have a potluck. It is so rude to invite people to a party, then expect them to also bring their own food. As the host of the party you should be providing for your guests. 
$20 per person is very reasonable. Going out to dinner at most restaurants, even costs more than $20 a person. If you can’t afford food for that many people, invite fewer people. 
I also don’t understand how potluck solves your problem. Won’t people bring food you can’t eat? Or on top of asking them to bring food, are you going to demand that they bring a special dish that meets your strict dietary needs?

I feel like everyone is being super rude to you! I am celiac and I hate being the only one at a party that can't eat something normal because of my allergy. no one who doesn't have a gluten issue understands! Do what makes you happy and screw what anyone else says about it. You're the bride, it's your day, and you shouldn't be singled out just because of your allergy.

If anyone invited to your wedding has a problem with it being potluck then they can stay home. A wedding is about celebrating the love you and your fiancé have, not the food. It's your wedding and they should care about you and your special day more than the food. My cousins wedding is in a month and she hasn't found a catering place either. She's considering just ordering a bunch of pizzas. Lol.
