breast feeding and pump?

so I had my baby 4 days ago ,and I'm breast feeding and he's eating good but I'm so engorged it hurts so bad I just started pumping for relief after feeding him is that bad to do? can I pump until it's fully relieved? or will it come back to bite me later?

You really should avoid pumping in the first 3 weeks, the uncomfortableness will pass much quicker if you only let the baby remove what they need. If you feel like you absolutely have to pump then only pump to relieve engorgement, not to empty the breast.

It should be okay to relieve the pressure, especially if it’s hurting you, but you don’t want to pump too much because then your breasts won’t regulate and they will continue to make too much!

Its fine to do that. You can freeze what you get from pumping and start saving it for later. Wish I would have done that from day 1

Maybe donate the extra milk?

Obviously it depends on what you want to do, but your baby will eventually regulate how much milk you make, so pumping this early could give you an oversupply...I’d contact a lactation specialist to see what they think..
